Safar Center for Resuscitation Research

Founded by Dr. Peter Safar, and directed by Dr. Patrick Kochanek, the Safar Center for Resuscitation Research exists within the Department of Critical Care Medicine and receives some financial support from this Department to fund its research activities.

The current research foci of the Center (treatment of head trauma and hemorrhagic shock), are specifically related to Critical Care Medicine, as Dr. Kochanek is a pediatrician and intensivist. In this year, the most exciting development was the successful acquisition of funding for a T-32 grant entitled “Training in Pediatric Neurointensive Care and Resuscitation Research” by the National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research of the National Institute of Child Health and Development (NICHD). In addition, Center members headed by Dr. Peter Safar (Drs. Kochanek, Clark, Tisherman) continue in its mission through a study funded by the U.S. Army entitled “Novel Resuscitation from Lethal Hemorrhage: Suspended Animation for Delayed Resuscitation”.
