AHRQ Grant for Patient Safety Research | Carl A. Sirio, MD, Principal Investigator of the AHRQ funded cooperative agreement, “A Systems Approach for Improving Region-Wide Patient Safety,” has partnered with the Pittsburgh Regional Healthcare Initiative (PRHI) in groundbreaking work to change the way evidence and research is integrated into medical practice.

GenIMS | The Genetic and Inflammatory Markers of Sepsis (GenIMS) study is a multi-center trial funded by a $6 million National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant and is coordinated by the Department of Critical Care Medicine (CCM) at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Sepsis affects more than 750,000 Americans each year, with a mortality rate of over 30 percent, making it the 10th leading cause of death in the United States.

NIH | Founded in 1887, the National Institutes of Health today is one of the world's foremost medical research centers, and the Federal focal point for medical research in the United States.
