Year 1 activities:

  1. Rotated through four laboratories (Whiteside, Kagen, Jackson, Zeevi) learning their basic techniques and cellular-molecular applications
  2. Learned molecular techniques of PCR, Western blot, Northern Blot, isoelectric focusing, fluorescent cell sorting (Theresa Whiteside)
  3. Initiated the study of the effect of GM-CSF on circulating immnocyte function in human sepsis (Peter Linden, Alan Rosenbloom, Theresa Whiteside, Michael Pinsky)
  4. Initiated the study of the effect of continuous veno-venous hemofiltration with dialysis (CVVH-D) on circulating inflammatory mediators and immmunocyte function in human sepsis (John Kellum, Nick Johnson, Michael Pinsky, Theresa Whiteside)
  5. Took postgraduate courses on statistical analysis and laboratory techniques from Graduate School of Cell Biology
