Project Title:
Protein Kinase B and C in Head Injury

Funding Agency:
NIH

Total Project Period:
Feb 01, 2005 - Jan 31, 2006

Principal Investigator:
Patrick Kochanek, MD

Co-Investigator(s):
Larry Jenkins, MD

Project Summary:
Our central hypothesis is that downregulation of beneficial (PKA, P13-K/PKB and PKC, ½ isoforms) pathways and upregulation of harmful (MAPK-JNK/p38 and PKC isoforms, 0) pathways after CCI contribute4 to hippocampal neuronal death and upregulation of MAPK-JNK/p38 pathways are the result of aberrant protein phosphorylation.  We also hypothesize that bFGF treatment modulates these signal transduction abnormalities in providing therapeutic benefit.
