MACRO
MACRO is a cross-departmental initiative designed to provide a high quality, integrated and efficient clinical research infrastructure while simultaneously providing the optimal environment for protection of human subjects. MACRO is a collaborative effort of the Departments of Critical Care Medicine and Surgery. MACRO provides interdepartmental resources, facilities, and trained staff to clinical investigators from diverse specialties to promote clinical research in a professional and ethical manner. MACRO facilitates acute care research intended to improve patient outcomes and advance clinical practice in the treatment of diseases and conditions affecting the critically ill or injured patient, while minimizing potential risks to the research subject. MACRO ensures timely enrollment, adherence to study protocols, accurate data collection, and close supervision of all aspects of clinical research, in addition to providing open communication between the departments, clinical investigators, regulatory agencies, and study sponsors. MACRO promotes collaborative, innovative research by bridging the disciplines of participating Departments.
