Admissions Requirements and Procedures

Applicants for each fellowship must:

1. Complete the minimum residency training for board examination in one of the primary specialties of anesthesiology, internal medicine, or surgery, or as otherwise required by the relevant specialty board.
2. The Critical Care fellowships at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center do not participate in ERAS. Applications must be submitted to the CCM Office of Education along with the following supporting documents:
   
   • At least three (3) letters of recommendation from faculty members of current or prior training programs. One of these letters must be from the current department head or training program director.
   • Curriculum Vitae
   • USMLE I, II, and III scores
   • ECFMG certificate (if applicable)
3. Submit the application form:
   • Surgical CC Application
   • Anethesiology CC Application
   • CCM-IM Application
   • CCM-EM Application
4. Visit the University for a personal interview following review of your completed application and letters of recommendation.

After acceptance into the program:

1. American and Canadian graduates must obtain a Graduate Medical Training (GMT) license to receive fellowship training in Pennsylvania. This process includes having a medical school verification form completed and submitted to the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine. Application forms for the GMT license will be forwarded to all trainees upon acceptance into the program
2. Foreign Graduates must also obtain the GMT license, which requires ECFMG sponsorship, a J-1 visa, three years of prior training in the United States, and completion of USMLE Steps I, II and III, or its equivalent.

   All incoming fellows must be previously certified for the duration of their fellowship in BCLS and ACLS.
