Research Positions Available:

Research III, Full-time

A Research Specialist will independently perform biochemical/molecular biology studies in an NIH-funded laboratory studying septic and hemorrhagic shock. A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field including biology or biochemistry and at least three years of prior laboratory experience required. The incumbent will independently perform basic and complex procedures. Some experience with chromatography is required, as the incumbent will be expected to perform HPLC analysis of small molecules using an Ettan LC system equipped an auto sampler to support on going basic research studies and a large clinical study of severe sepsis. This will involve the development of project-specific assays under the guidance of the PI. Other techniques that will be performed will include Western blotting, immunoprecipitation, protein purification, and proteomics using LC-MALDI MS/MS analysis. This individual will be expected to independently coordinate all research activities, including data collection, evaluation and analysis. The candidate will also be expected to assist in writing of research reports.

Health Professional II, Part-time

Incumbent will study work with coordinating Center for National Clinical Research studies. Incumbent may also participate in site training and take call for site questions in regards to study intervention procedures and web-based data questions as required for this study. He/She will assist with tracking of AEs and work closely with web-based data system to assist with compilation of study statistics for reporting to sponsor, DSMB and research team. There may also be some travel for the purpose of site training and/or monitoring. This position requires a broad set of capabilities and experience in conduct of clinical research. Incumbent must possess knowledge of good clinical practice guidelines and procedures, the ability to work independently and effectively solve problems. Incumbent must be highly analytical and possess good communication skills, both written and oral, be detail oriented and organized. Good MS Word skills are required. Excel and PowerPoint skills are also helpful. Bachelor's degree in Nursing or other medical profession + 2 years experience in a clinical research setting is required. Incumbent may support other research endeavors as they arise.

Laboratory Technician (Research III), Full-time

Incumbent will provide laboratory and technical support for the CRISMA Laboratory in the Department of Critical Care Medicine. Familiarity with principals and methodology of both basic and clinical research is required. Incumbent will be expected to perform all stages of immunoassays and to measure various cytokines and other sepsis?related analytes. Incumbent will assist in receiving, cataloging, barcode scanning, aliquoting, storing and performing assays on human samples with subsequent multi-level analysis and processing of obtained results. Ability and willingness to handle blood specimens while observing Universal Precautions is imperative. The selected candidate's duties will also include assisting in the maintenance of an accurate computer database and log book-based inventory of clinical research samples and their storage locations, assisting with sample tracking in the core lab and all satellite labs, maintaining supply inventory, and other routine tasks as assigned to ensure efficient and safe lab operations. Some animal work and cell culture work may be required. Computer skills (Microsoft Excel and Access preferred) and excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary. Bachelor's degree with 2 years previous lab experience, or commensurate.

Receptionist (Administrative Support II), Full-time

Incumbent will perform a variety of entry level clerical tasks including but not limited to: sorting mail and miscellaneous materials, answering inquiries and referring them to appropriate individuals, typing data onto various forms and acting as a receptionist.

Systems Programmer (Systems/Programmer II), Full-time

The candidate will provide data management and statistical support to an expanding research group. Duties include maintenance of existing web based data collection systems and databases, dataset preparation and development and adhering to control procedures. Candidate will participate in development of new systems, support existing data team in flow and organization of data, produce data summaries and reports, prepare data for presentations at meetings, and collaborate in a research group. Incumbent must demonstrate ability to work both individually and with a team. Must possess good written and verbal communication skills. Experience in data scrubbing and transformation preferred; those with statistical ability also preferred.
