Honors & Awards

	Feb, 2009	Dr. Scott R. Gunn was elected as a Fellow in the American College of Critical Care Medicine (ACCM) in February 2009. He was inducted at the ACCM Convocation ceremony during the 38th Annual SCCM Congress. Dr. Gunn is currently an Associate Professor of Critical Care Medicine and Emergency Medicine.
	Jan, 2009	Dr. Murat Kaynar became associate professor (a.k.a Docent) of anesthesia in the academic system of Turkey (The Turkish Council of Higher Education). He applied for this promotion almost 2 years ago, first passing the publication criteria and then invited for an oral examination.
	Jan, 2009	Dr. Samuel Tisherman was elected to serve on the Board of Regents of The American College of Critical Care Medicine beginning February 2009 at the Annual SCCM Congress. Dr. Tisherman (surgeon), is currently an associate professor of Critical Care Medicine and an internationally reputable member of the University of Pittsburgh's Department of Critical Care Medicine.
	Jan, 2009	Dr. Marie Baldisseri was elected to serve on the Board of Regents of The American College of Critical Care Medicine beginning February 2009 at the Annual SCCM Congress. Dr. Baldisseri (internist), is currently an associate professor of Critical Care Medicine and an internationally reputable member of the University of Pittsburgh's Department of Critical Care Medicine.
	Nov, 2008	Paul Rogers, MD, Professor of Critical Care Medicine, received the 2008 Alpha Omega Alpha Robert J. Glaser Distinguished Teacher Award in San Antonio during the annual meeting of the American Association of Medical Colleges.
	Oct, 2008	Dr. Patrick Kochanek received the Distinguished Career Award from the AAP Section of Critical Care. The award recognizes career achievement in the field of critical care. Dr. Kochanek is the 14th recipient of this honor.
	Oct, 2008	David Huang, MD, served as Chairman of the Critical Care Medicine Section of the American College of Emergency Physicians and achieved the highest increase in resident section memberships. For this accomplishment he received the Award of Distinction during the 2008 ACEP Congress.
	June,2008	Marilyn Hravnak, CCRN, PhD and Professor of Nursing at Pitt received the International Bayada Award for Technological Innovation in Nursing Education and Practice presented by the Drexel University College of Nursing and Health Professions at the Drexel University Nursing Education Institute Conference in Atlantic City, NJ.
	Oct, 2007	Dr. Kate Felmet was the recipient of the Annual SCCM Annual Scientific Award.
	Oct, 2007	Dr. Raghavan (Ragi) Murugan received the 2008 CPR Specialty Award for his abstract entitled, “Preload Responsiveness is Associated with Increased IL-6 & Lower Organ Yield from Cadaveric Donors.” The award will be presented at the 2008 Annual Congress of SCCM.
	Oct, 2007	David T. Huang, MD, MPH was inducted as a fellow in the American College of Emergency Physicians.
	Sept, 2007	Dr. Murugan was inducted as a fellow in the College of Chest Physicians

	June, 2007	Joseph Darby, MD, professor, CCM received the Surgical Educator Award for contributing the most to the surgical education of Integrated Residents of the Division of Plastic Surgery. This award is presented by the Division of Plastic Surgery, Department of Surgery, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine
	June, 2007	Dr. John Kellum received the International Vicenza Award during an International Course on Critical Care Nephrology.
	May, 2007	Dr. Juan Carlos Puyana received invitation from the National Institute of Public Health (INSP) to serve as a member of the Scientific Committee for the 9th World Congress on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion to be held in Merida, Yucatan in March 2008.
	April, 2007	Dr. Paul Rogers received the Charles Watson Award for Excellence in Medical Student Teaching presented by the Alpha Omega Alpha Fraternity at the University of Pittsburgh
	Mar, 2007	Dr. Michael R. Pinsky was presidential candidate in April 2007 University Senate election.
	Mar, 2007	Ann E. Thompson, MD, listed along with other prominent area physicians as the Top Doctors in the May 2007 edition of the Pittsburgh Magazine.
	Feb, 2007	Dr. David Huang awarded the Emergency Medicine Foundation Young Investigator Award for an abstract he presented at the October 2006 American College of Emergency Physicians Research Forum.
	Feb, 2007	G. Daniel Martich, MD, appointed Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) for UPMC.
	Feb, 2007	Mioara Manole, MD, received 2nd prize for her poster “Magnetic Resonance Assessment of Cerebral Blood Flow AFTER Asphyxial Cardiac Arrest in Developing Rats” at the Pennsylvania-Delaware Heart Associate Annual Fellows Day.
	Nov, 2006	The Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) appointed Dr. Michael DeVita as a member al large of the Board of Directors. He is also the Program Committee Chairman for the 2007 Annual Congress of SSH.
	Nov, 2006	Dr. Michael R. Pinsky appointed Interim Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Critical Care in September.
	Oct, 2006	Dr. Ali Al-Khafaji appointed the “Classic Papers in Critical Care” Section Editor and a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Critical Care.
	Sep, 2006	Dr. Mitchell P. Fink granted an entrepreneurial leave of absence. As co-founder of a biotechnology company called Logical Therapeutics, Inc., Dr. Fink will help this new venture get firmly established and adequately financed.
	Aug, 2006	Dr. Russell Delude has been appointed by the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics to the Editorial Advisory Board of the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics.
	July, 2006	Dr. Derek Angus on sabbatical to be at the Cochin Hospital/University of Paris V in the Department of Critical Care Medicine to work with Jean-Daniel Chiche and Jean-Paul Mira to conduct translational and clinical research related to sepsis and critical care.
	Mar, 2006	Dr. Mitchell P. Fink was the 2006 Zinner - Gelman Lecturer In Surgery and Anesthesia. Dr. Fink presented the Lester R. Dragstedt Visiting Professor Lecture entitled “Ethyl Pyruvate, HMGB1 and Critical Therapeutics, Inc.: A True Story.” MORE
	Feb, 2006	Dr. Zhiyong Peng, Research Associate in CCM, was presented the Harry M. Vars Research Award for his work on metabolism in sepsis at the 2006 annual meeting of ASPEN held in Dallas, Texas.
	Jan, 2006	Hulya Bayir and MD, Yi-Chen Lai, MD received educational scholarships at the SCCM meeting in San Francisco.
	Jan, 2006	Ake Grenvik,MD, PhD, FCCM, received the Shubin - Weil Medal for Excellence in CCM, presented by Max Harry Weil, MD, PhD, FCCM and Founding President of SCCM.
	Jan, 2006	Samuel A Tisherman, MD, FCCM, received the Asmund S. Laerdal Memorial Lecture Award.
	Jan, 2006	The American College of CCM on Sunday, Jan. 8, held its Convocation of new Fellows with Dr. Ricardo Munoz of the Pitt CCM Department receiving this honor.
	Nov, 2005	Dr. Hulya Bayir elected into membership into the Societry for Pediatric Research.
	Oct 31, 2005	Dr. Lou Alarcon inducted as a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS)
	Oct, 2005	Dr. David Huang made Chair of the American College of Emergency Physicians Critical Care Section (until 2007.)
	Oct, 2005	Dr. Angus was elected earlier in the year to FRCP UK- a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom.
