The number 1 issue for 2009 of the journal Critical Care Medicine has an excellent supplement on "Improving Clinical Trials in the Critically Ill: Proceedings of a Round Table Conference in Brussels, Belgium, March 2008" with Derek C. Angus, MD, MPH, FRCP, and Jean-Paul Mira, MD, PhD, as the invited guest editors. This 183-page supplement starts with a thought provocative introduction by Drs. Michael Reade (recent Pitt CCM alumnus) and Derek Angus, followed by a large number of interesting articles by an outstanding group of international authorities. This is, indeed, very worthwhile reading for all intensivists not just for those personally performing clinical trials in the ICU.
