Drs. Baldisseri and Reed - Project Hope Volunteers
on USNS Comfort

back

The December issue of the SCCM Critical Connections reports on humanitarian volunteer work by two of our CCM Training Program alumni. Marie Baldisseri, MD, is a 1987 graduate of the Pitt CCM fellowship and is currently an associate professor of CCM at Pitt, a very much appreciated clinician and worldwide teacher of the SCCM Fundamental Critical Care Support (FCCS) courses. Mary Jane Reed, MD, is a 1993 graduate of the Pitt CCM program and currently a critical care surgeon at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA. The two served three weeks each at different times on Project Hope and then joined each other in September 2008, in Project Africa Global to provide healthcare in Swaziland. Their noble efforts to provide medical help to needy people in the developing world is most admirable.

Marie Baldisseri traveled to South America with Project Hope aboard the USNS Comfort. Mary Jane Reed gets a quick checkup from a boy in Swaziland, Africa, where she treated many orphans. Most have lost their parents to AIDS or tuberculosis.
