On October 8, 2008, Derek Angus, MD, MPH, as our new CCM Chairman, gave a superb, fact loaded Grand Rounds talk on "Sepsis 2008. Meet the New Boss, Same as the Old Boss?" Although he started with a historical review of sepsis going back several hundred years, Dr. Angus quickly concentrated on recent massive information of this overwhelming problem in the ICU. His fascinating presentation, citing world wide scientific contributions to this rapidly growing field of knowledge from bacterial invasion to molecular changes of cell function, demonstrated the importance of studies performed right here under his prominent leadership. The illustrations were colorful and plentiful in this rapid and retoric lecture by the always smiling and friendly speaker, convincing the audience that we certainly got the right new chairman for our department. This lecture was followed by a thundering applause in the crowded auditorium.
