Dr. M. Reade Presents Excellent Pitt Research at ATS Congress
back

Dr. Michael Reade is a former Pitt CCM Fellow now on the faculty at the University of Melbourne, Australia.  As first author, he presented research at the May 2008 International Conference of the American Thoracic Society.  Interesting data from a large Pitt study of 1,136 men and 1,047 women with pneumonia indicated that men had a 30% higher risk of death, perhaps based on gender differences in the body's immune response. This study was funded by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences.  Other Pitt authors were Sachin Yende, Gina D'Angelo, Eric Milbrandt, John Kellum, Amber Barnato, Florian Mayr, Lisa Weissfeld and principal study investigator Derek Angus, all of the School of Medicine.
