Dr. Earl Bakken was the developer of the first wearable cardiac pacemaker and founder of Medtronic., Inc. On June 4, 2008, at the third Heart-Brain Summit of the Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Patrick Kochanek was invited to give the annual Bakken Lecture and received the 2008 Bakken Heart-Brain Pioneer Award for his innovative research in the field of heart-brain medicine. The title of his presentation was "The Brain, the Heart, and Therapeutic Hypothermia." This is a most prestigeous award and we congratulate Dr. Kochanek for this honor.
