Drs. Derek Angus and Michael Pinsky were two of the ten international faculty invited to speak at the prestigious Winter Symposium on Intensive Care chaired annually by Drs. Jean-Louis Vincent, MD, PhD of Brussels (a former Grenvik Metal recipient) and Peter Suter, MD of Geneva. The meeting was held in Steamboat Springs, Colorado during January 28 through February 1, 2008. More than 100 registrants heard Drs. Angus and Pinsky speak in an informal setting wherein the other invited lecturers also actively participated in the question and answer periods. Dr. Angus spoke on “Rationalizing Critical Care Services,” “Early Goal-Directed Therapies for Sepsis,” and “Gender and Race Differences in Incidence and Outcome from Critical Illness” and Dr. Pinsky spoke on “Cardiovascular Complications Starting and Stopping Mechanical Ventilation,” “PEEP, Auto-PEEP and Hyperinflation, “Goals of Resuscitation: Hemodynamic Targets,” and was in a Pro/Con debate on “Should RV Function Be Monitored During Severe ARDS.”
