Another Publication Record Breaker Among Our Alumni
back

Dr. Michael Reade completed clinical residencies and fellowships in anesthesia and intensive care in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia, and Oxford, England, before coming to Pittsburgh as a clinical CCM Fellow in 2005. He intended not only to widen his clinical experience but also build on the work undertaken during his research doctorate in Oxford. Following completion of his fellowship, he was appointed to our CCM faculty as a visiting instructor in July 2006, combining clinical service in the Transplant ICU with research in collaboration with Dr. Derek Angus. Furthermore, he completed the Pitt MPH in epidemiology and biostatistics. His research focus has been analysis of the GenIMS pneumonia cohort study, investigating gender disparities and the effects of infection on anemia and coagulopathy. He also participated in the co-ordination of the US and Australasian multicenter trials of Early Goal Directed Therapy for severe sepsis. Dr. Reade has been extremely productive during his time in Pittsburgh with 22 publications accomplished and four more to be submitted. Although this is over a stretch of 30 months, it breaks previous publication records held by Pitt CCM alumni, Drs. Martin Tobin (1983) and Rinaldo Bellomo (1993). Dr. Reade returns to his native Australia as an academic intensivist at Austin Hospital of the University of Melbourne, where he will work alongside Professor Rinaldo Bellomo.

The CCM Medical and nursing staff had a fairwell party for Dr. Reade at Bar Louie in station square where everyone had a great time.
