Dr. Daniel P. Schuster, Professor of Medicine and Radiology at Washington University School of Medicine, died suddenly and unexpectedly on September 11, 2007. He was a CCM Fellow in our program 1979-81 and distinguished himself for his excellent performance and knowledge of internal medicine and pulmonary medicine. He was named Outstanding Fellow in the Pitt CCM Program. After he completed fellowship in Pittsburgh, he moved to St. Louis. As a superb discussant and researcher he rose quickly at Washington University to the level of Professor with tenure. He was the first recipient of the Virginia E. And Sam J. Golman Chair in Critical Care Medicine and served as Associate Dean in Clinical Research. Dr. Schuster was a renowned investigator for the American Heart Association and American Lung Association. He had a most impressive CV with over 150 published peer review papers. His premature death is a great loss to medical science. We in Pittsburgh remember him as a bright and witty CCM colleague.
