On June 1, 2007, Carl A. Sirio, MD, FACP, FCCP and FCCM, was promoted to Professor of Critical Care Medicine with secondary appointments on this level in Internal Medicine and Pharmacy & Therapeutics. Dr. Sirio did his medical residency at the Hershey Medical Center following which he served at NIH as a fellow and then as clinical associate in critical care medicine. He is ABIM certified in CCM. With a most impressive career, he has served on the PA Health Care Cost Containment Council and remains heavily involved in the PA Department of Health. He is a founding member of the Pittsburgh Regional Health Care Initiative. He has also served on a large number of national committees and councils, such as NBME, GMEAC, IMRRC, CME and LCME. Dr. Sirio was recruited to CCM at Pitt in 1993. In addition to his administrative duties and widespread committee work, he has been extremely active clinically and in research. He is author or co-author of more than 150 scientific publications, frequently called upon as lecturer or consultant, and has served on the editorial board of numerous medical journals. Obviously, this is a most well-deserved promotion and we congratulate Dr. Sirio on his success.
