| Dr Peter Safar, Professor
and Founding Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical
Care Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh 40 years ago and now
serving as Distinguished Service Professor of Resuscitation Medicine
is still the Principal Investigator on his Department of Defense
funded Suspended Animation project at the Safar Center for Resuscitation
Research. Heading for his 79th birthday, he has received several
honorary doctorate degrees worldwide. On February 28, 2003, it was
time for Dr Safar to become Honorary Doctor of Science at the University
of Pittsburgh. Because of his prominence, he was also selected as
the featured speaker at this year's Honors Convocation. He chose
to discuss the topic "Thoughts About Academe And Humanism".
This was eloquently presented to the audience in the completely
filled Carnegie Music Hall, superbly fitting a talented piano player
like Peter Safar. He recieved a standing ovation at the completion
of his speach.
