Predicting risk of pneumonia in the general population
Major goal of this project: To develop a risk prediction tool based on a clinical exam and blood tests that could be done as part of a routine check-up to identify individuals at high risk for pneumonia.
-
bioACCESS 7/2008-6/2011
Co-Principal Investigator (25% effort) pending
Major goal of this project: i.) To conduct gene expression microarray to understand mechanisms underlying Eritoran (TLR4 antagonist) in treatment of severe sepsis; and, ii.) to conduct gene-association studies to identify genetic markers within the TLR4 signaling pathway associated with outcomes of severe sepsis and to conduct a pharmacogenetic study to assess if genetic determinants within the TLR4 pathway predict which individuals respond favorably or poorly to Eritoran.
Current Research Interest:
- Genetic and non-genetic factors affecting mechanical ventilation after bypass surgery
- Genetics of susceptibility to and outcomes after community acquired pneumonia
- Impact of critical care illness on long term outcomes in the elderly
